      The Body of Christ
Shirley Malmgren

Jesus risen from the dead,
seated at the Father's hand,
sees His Body walk the earth
cell by cell in reborn man.

One night I dreamed He said, 'I hurt'
but I did not understand
the King of Kings and Lord of Lords
with heaven's power at His command.

Until I thought about His church
bruised, divided, land on land,
wartorn by war upon itself,
I wept to see this Broken Man.

I asked, My Lord, what can I do,
my heart within me breaks for grief
to see the pain this brings to You
much deeper than the pain in me.

For in my lifetime, I have seen
my family torn apart by creeds,
the oneness sectioned, part by part
while love pled silent on her knees.

Father, if we could only see
the deep affliction of Your soul
when children fight among themselves
and You would have Your family whole.

Shirley Malmgren is a Christian mother of five and grandmother of eight. She home-schooled two of her children through Christian Liberty Academy in Arlington Heights, Illinois. Over the years, Shirley has developed a large collection of her own poetry. Besides the poem above, three other poems of Shirley's are published here as well:
