Like Pharisees
who strain at gnats,
like blind men
by the way
we have dissected
rule and law
in stinging exposé.

We have built
our guarded walls
to keep the others out,
self-righteous
in our mode and thought,
exclusive in our doubt.

But all the while
we boast and shout
exalting favored creeds,
we've laid aside
the Royal Command
Christ our King decreed,
that "Thou shalt love"
and on that love
base every word and deed.
