The author believes that sowing the seed of God's Word is part of God's Prophetic Work in the earth. The Sower

Prophets and Prophetic Words

Weekly Newsletter Series
by Mark W. Weaver

"Behold, a sower went forth to sow...
Matt. 13:3 KJV

I came across the above image of the sower at a place on the web called Atlantic Fish. Offered as free clip-art, I copied it to my hard drive and am now using it as the image to represent this series. I really like it!

As the author of these articles, I chose the sower image because to me he represents the prophetic work of God in the earth in the broadest sense. I see the sower as God's prophetic workman, broadcasting the seed (God's Word) into the soil of culture.

Not all who come across this page and read these words will necessarily agree with my view on this subject. And I guess, in a sense, that is part of the reason I have decided to launch this website. I see the prophetic realm in a broad sweep. As I say in my first article, The Word of the Lord, I believe there are least five ways that prophetic ministry is working today. And there may be others that I just haven't discovered yet.

1. Some believe that to be prophetic means one can interpret apocalyptic end-time scenarios (biblical references and current events).
2. Others have experienced or delivered personal prophetic words that exhort, direct, confirm, or pinpoint a specific area of personal vision or need.
3. Still others view prophetic words as timely, power-packed messages to the Church at large.
4. A few even consider cultural clashes such as the pro-life stand against pro-abortion forces to be a prophetic lifting of the standard of truth in the idea marketplace.
5. Finally, many believe that the word prophetic really means to teach or preach the Word of the Lord.

Honestly, I personally am not sure that No. 1 on the above list could be categorized as prophetic. But the World Wide Web abounds with many who seem to think this way.

I have tried as much as possible to present my essays in a fair and balanced way. I don't promise that they are balanced, just that I have tried to make them balanced. On this page, sort of tucked away, I guess you could say I am directly disclosing my personal views of the prophetic. I see it simply as a sowing of the Word of the Lord. When the Word of the Lord goes forth, whether from a teacher, a preacher, a pastor, an apostle, a prophet, or an evangelist, the Word of the Lord confronts and challenges all to repent, change, and worship the One True Living God. That, I believe is what makes the Word, in any form, prophetic.

Perhaps I will have more to say later.

For now, thank you for visiting the website and reading these articles. Please feel free to send your comments and feedback.
