What We Believe

As publishers and writers of fiction, non-fiction and music, we desire for all of our creative works to flow out of our basic, core values. Foremost as Christians, we believe in the deity of Jesus Christ and His redemptive work on the cross. We also believe in the Holy Trinity - the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. And we believe the Bible, both Old and New Testaments, to be the inspired, infallible and perfect word of God.

Below we have broken out our essential beliefs into three categories: Our Core Beliefs, Our Beliefs about the Christian Life and Church Life, and Five Arenas Where We Sense a Specific Calling to Serve God.

Our Core Beliefs. God and His purposes have been revealed to man over time in a progressive or line upon line fashion. First is God, then man, then sin, then God's promise of deliverance, and so forth until His Church emerges upon the scene. Here, in greater detail, are our foundational beliefs:

  • God. We believe - that God is the Creator of all that exists including the race of mankind which has been created for His glory and service. We believe that God is Three-in-One, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
  • Man. We believe - that man has been created in the image of God and that every human person, whether Christian or not, still bears the image of God and thus possesses basic human dignity and deserves the basic respect of his fellow man.
  • Sin. We believe - in original sin and that all who have descended from the first man Adam, have been corrupted by sin's power and face the dreadful prospect of eternal damnation and separation from God.
  • Covenant. We believe - that in response to mankind's sin, God made covenantal promises for the ultimate redemption of His people. The primary Covenantal promises are as follows: Adamic, Noahic, Abrahamic, Mosaic and Davidic.
  • Incarnation. We believe - that the fulfillment of God's Covenantal promises are found in the Incarnation and Virgin Birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, who is the Son of God in human form and the Mediator of the New Covenant.
  • Redemption. We believe - in His vicarious atonement for the sins of all who call upon His name and trust in His power to save through His death and the shedding of His blood upon the Cross.
  • Resurrection. We believe - in the physical Resurrection of His body from the tomb and His literal Ascension into heaven.
  • New Birth. We believe - in the new birth through the regenerative work of the Holy Spirit.
  • Grace. We believe - in His sustaining grace for life and service through the impartation of His Holy Spirit.
  • Judgment. We believe - in the final judgment where every soul will come face to face with their Creator to give account for their life.
  • Eternal Life. We believe - in the gift of Eternal Life by the Grace of God to all who trust in Christ as their Savior.
  • Bible. We believe - that the Holy Scriptures are the inspired, infallible and perfect Word of God.
  • Kingdom. We believe - that God's kingdom is ever-expanding in the earth and that this kingdom is His rule and government in our lives and in all that we touch.
  • Sovereignty. We believe - in the absolute rule and authority of God over all things. God is never unexpectedly caught off guard or taken by surprise. Nothing that happens occurs without His foreknowledge or assent.
  • Church. We believe - that the unity of the true Church of Jesus Christ transcends demoninational, racial and cultural barriers.

Our Beliefs about the Christian Life and Church Life. The Christian life, the Church, and its mission are revealed not linearly, as above, but simultaneously, as many sides or facets of a precious gem, none having more importance or preeminence than the other:

  • Worship. We believe - that worshipping God is the fundamental duty and joy of every believer. Christian worship takes many forms and expressions, none more perfect or proper than the other. True worship must begin in the heart.
  • Service. We believe - that God has called all who trust in Him for salvation to willingly serve Him out of a heart of gratitude. We believe that Jesus Christ is the ultimate example of service, willingly laying down His life for us. Service is also an expression of worship.
  • Evangelism. We believe - in the evangelization of the world, that is the proclamation of the gospel or good news about Jesus Christ to our families, neighbors, workmates and even to the ends of the earth.
  • Discipleship. We believe - that the Great Commission, Christ's command to make disciples of nations, involves more than just leading people into a relationship with Jesus Christ but even more so to make them into true disciples or followers of Jesus.
  • Prayer. We believe - in prayer. It is God's way of changing first us, and then the world around us. Along with the proclamation of the gospel, prayer is the primary tool for achieving God's will and extending His kingdom in the earth.
  • Obedience. We believe - in obeying God. Although God knows our intrinsic weaknesses and propensities toward sin, and although He never fails to forgive, utlimately, He expects us to obey His commands. Through our obedience, His Kingdom goes forth in the earth. Without our obedience, His work lies stagnant.
  • Fellowship. We believe - in assembling together as the Scriptures command to encourage and build up one another in the faith.
  • Communion. We believe - in the regular partaking of the Lord's Supper, Communion or as some prefer to call it, the Eucharist.
  • Gifts. We believe - that God has deposited a rich reservoir of giftings into the members of His body for the purpose of carrying out His will and doing His work in the earth.
  • Fruits. We believe - that the surest sign that one is a Christian is the manifestation of the Fruits of the Spirit, the chief of these being Christian love.
  • Callings. We believe - that God has called and equipped each of His children in a unique and special way, and that each believer, with a measure of seeking God, can come to know his or her specific purpose and mission in creation.

Five Arenas Where We Sense a Specific Calling to Serve God. Each of God's people responds to His call to service in certain arenas. Some are called to serve as missionaries in far away countries. Others are called to pastor a flock. Some teach. Still others serve in soup kitchens or nursing homes. There are countless forms and expressions of God's call and numerous arenas in which to serve. All are significant and none are more important than the others. Below are five arenas where we have sensed a particular burden from God to serve as writers and publishers:

  • The Arena of Reconciliation. We believe - that God is calling His people to be reconciled to one another. We are living in a day and time when it is no longer practical nor appropriate for the different parts of the body to work at cross-purposes with one another.
    • The Dilemma. Over the centuries, God's people have divided over doctrines and practices. But no more significant divide exists in our nation than the divide between black Christians and white Christians. Eleven o'clock on Sunday morning is the most segregated hour of the week.
    • Our Role. We are responding to God's call by utilizing our gifts of writing, creativity and critical thinking, to challenge all Christians to become ambassadors, or missionaries of reconciliation, in their own churches and communities.
  • The Arena of Ideas. We believe - in the power of ideas. Our lives, our families, our workplaces, our cultures, our world - all are shaped by the way we think. Was man created or did he evolve? Is the marriage covenant really necessary? What constitutes a family? Which is the best form of government? Our answers to these and innumerable other questions will determine how we live.
    • The Dilemma. Over the past few generations our nation has experienced a gradual shift away from Judeo-Christian ideas and toward a pluralistic or polytheistic approach to life and culture.
    • Our Role. We are responding to God's call by utilizing our gifts of writing, creativity and critical thinking to project Judeo-Christian ideas and values back into the marketplaces of education and culture.
  • The Arena of Culture. We believe - that God desires for every culture to express and reflect His glory. Ultimately, a nation's culture will reflect the glory of the god(s) its people worship. Whom or what does our nation serve? God or Mammon?
    • The Dilemma. On many levels, our culture has ceased to express and reflect the glory of God. Instead, it now expresses and reflects the lesser glory of many lesser gods.
    • Our Role. We are responding to God's call by utilizing our gifts of writing, creativity and critical thinking, to challenge God's people to consecrate or set aside their lives exclusively for service to God in order that our culture can once again express and reflect His glory.
  • The Arena of History. We believe - that a clear understanding of history is essential if we are to advance God's kingdom. We can and must learn from the mistakes and missteps of those who have lived before us. To ignore history is to repeat it.
    • The Dilemma. Our nation has forgotten its distinct, Judeo-Christian history. And many Christians have chosen to blot out their memories of our failures in the area of race relations. Like Israel of old, we need to be reminded of God's faithfulness and to own up to our past failures.
    • Our Role. We are responding to God's call by utilizing our gifts of writing, creativity and critical thinking, to write stories, booklets, articles and even music that reminds all people, but particularly Christians, not only of our distinct Judeo-Christian roots but also of our many failures as God's people.
  • The Arena of Doctrine. We believe - that God desires us to have sound, biblically shaped minds. His Word serves not only as the utmost expression of His ideas (see above), but also as the standard to which all ideas must conform.
    • The Dilemma. Much of the Church has slipped away from sound, biblical thinking and toward the realm of mysticism. While the Christian life does have mystical components, many in the Church have succumbed to the dangerous, worldly practice of deferring to their own personal experiences with God over the certainty of sound doctrine.
    • Our Role. We are responding to God's call by utilizing our gifts of writing, creativity and critical thinking, to challenge believers to return to sound, biblical doctrine and to grow deep roots into, and build firm foundations upon, the sure ground of God's Word.
